Voorhees Pottery Wood-fired Stoneware and Porcelain

A new venture for David after making pottery for 30 plus years, wood-firing pottery caught his interest several years ago.  He has helped fire several different kilns in the Western NC area and visited a number around the US and England.  After a bit of research and experience he constructed a 90 cubic foot wood-firing car kiln with a bourry-style firebox and a pizza/bread oven.  He plans to fire every other month with a group of fellow potters from the area.  Two local sawmills and his 4 acre property provide the fuel for the 20 hour firings to cone 10.  Soda spraying (a form of salt glazing) is done at top temperature.  It takes 3 days to cool the kiln before opening.
Kiln Opening Events
Special open-to-the-public events are held after each firing.  Work fired in David's kiln will be offered for view and sale.  Several potters, sculptors and other artists are invited to participate in each firing with their work on display and for sale.
Fresh cookies, still warm from the kiln's baking oven and drinks will be provided.
Molly participates with new jewelry creations.
Sign up for our email list and we will let you know when each event happens.
